Visakhapatnam: Power major NTPC Limited has sought invitation for bids (IFB) for development, design and setup of 150 tonnes per day carbon dioxide to green urea (CTGU) plant at NTPC Green Hydrogen Hub being developed at Pudimadaka near here .

Through an international competitive bidding, NTPC sought online bids separately for techno-commercial and price for the package.

The Green Hydrogen Hub, is the first and largest integrated project, is scheduled for completion by 2032. Prime Minister Narenda Modi laid the foundation stone for the project in January, 2025. The project envisages an investment of Rs1.85 lakh crore ($21 billion). The project is being implemented by newly floated NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC). NGEL and New and Renewable Energy Development of Corporation (NREDCAP) have already signed an agreement to take up renewable energy projects with an estimated investment of Rs1.87 lakh crore to Rs2 lakh crore.. The Green Hydrogen Hub project is located at Pudimadaka in an area of 1600 acres in Anakapalle district. A large parcel of the land was earlier acquired by NTPC for establishing a greenfield ultra mega power plant, which was later shelved on technical grounds.

The Pudimadaka project will produce 1500 tonnes of green hydrogen daily along with green ammonia and methanol. It will use 7 gigawatt of renewable energy to make 4500 tonnes of green ammonia and 1500 tonnes of green methanol/sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). "It is going to become a hub for sustainable manufacturing as per the National Green Hydrogen Mission. Various packages are being finalised to expedite the project," NTPC Simhadri Head of Project Ayaskanta Jena said recently. Carbon dioxide from Simhadri will be transported to Pudimadaka in tanker lorries for conversion into green chemicals. The Pudimadaka project is planned to produce over 2.5 million tonnes of green chemicals per annum. NTPC Simhadri has plans to transport carbon dioxide by tanker lorries initially and later lay pipeline to the Green Hydrogen Hub project at Pudimadaka.

According to the notification issued by NTPC, the successful bidder for CTGU plant is supposed to execute the project on a lump sum basis covering licensing, design, engineering, fabrication, packing, forwarding, supply, transportation and handling. He is mandated to do loading, unloading, storage, construction, erection, commissioning, testing and training in line with the specifications for the complete 150 carbon dioxide, capture (at Simhadri), 15.3 TPD hydrogen and other facilities.
